Minors

To apply for a minor, you’ll need to fill out the minor application.

If you plan to minor in nutrition, you need to first meet with Dr. Peterson, NEP Director of Undergraduate Studies, before you submit your application. She can be reached at petersonca@missouri.edu.

Nutrition Minor

The Nutrition Minor is intended for students majoring in food science, biological sciences, biochemistry or related fields. This minor would be a good choice for premed, predental, or pre-PA students.

  • NEP 2340: Human Nutrition I* (spring only)
  • Plus one course selected from the following list of approved nutrition courses:
    • NEP 1310: Basic Concepts of World Nutrition, (3 cr); HUMANITIES GEN ED; Spring, Sum
    • NEP 2222: Landscape of Obesity, (3 cr); BEHAV SCI GEN ED; Spring
    • NEP 4360: Nutritional Assessment** (3 cr); Fall
  • Plus two courses selected from the following list of approved nutrition courses:
    • NEP 2380: Diet Therapy for Health Professionals (3 cr); Fall, Spring, Sum
    • NEP 4340: Human Nutrition II*** Fall
    • NEP 4370: Nutrition Therapy I† Spring
  • Plus one courses selected from the following list of approved nutrition courses:
    • NEP 2450:Nutrition throughout the Life Span†† (3cr); Spring, Sum
    • NEP 4380: Nutrition Therapy II (2 cr); Fall
    • NEP 4590: Community Nutrition (3 cr); Fall

*One course in organic chem is a prerequisite
** Psych 1000 & NEP 2340 are prerequisites
***NEP 2340 & one course in biochem are prerequisites

Wellness Minor

The Wellness Minor is intended for both non-science and science students interested in course work focused on empowering them to make informed decisions related to lifelong personal nutrition and exercise choices.

  • NEP 1034: Introduction to Human Nutrition (3 cr); Fall, Spring, Sum or NEP 2340: Human Nutrition I* (3 cr); Spring
  • NEP 1340: Introduction to Exercise and Fitness (3 cr); Fall, Spring
  • NEP 2450: Nutrition Throughout the Life Span (3 cr); Spring, Sum
  • NEP 3450 (currently taught as topics course Nutr S 3001): Physical Activity Throughout the Life span (3 cr); Fall

Plus at least one course (to complete a total of 15 hours) from the following list of approved courses:

  • NEP 2222: Landscape of Obesity, (3 cr); Spring
  • NEP 2380: Diet Therapy for Health Professionals (3 cr); Fall, Spring, Sum
  • NEP 2460: Eating Disorders (2 cr); Fall
  • NUTR-S 4200: Sports Performance and Conditioning* (3 cr); Spring, Sum
  • NUTR-S 4860: Exercise Prescription* (3 cr); Spring
