Study Abroad in Greece

Summer Session: May 15-27, 2017

Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle

The Greece location of the Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle study abroad course provides an ideal setting for a two week overview of the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and way of life. This course will be held in the town of Heraklion and the villages of Archanes and Vamos on the island of Crete as well as in the city of Athens.

The environment on Crete is conducive to an active lifestyle and taking time for healthy meals which, when combined with a wholesome diet, contributes to overall good health and longevity.

Students will study different aspects of the Mediterranean diet through activity-related experiences, including visits to archaeological sites, organic food markets, farms, traditional tavernas and olive oil factories, as well as participate in food preparation classes. They will take a guided botanical hike to learn about the native vegetation that is incorporated into the diet. Students will finish their experience in Athens where they will learn about the research focused on adherence and behavior change related to the Mediterranean diet.
